17 HONEY | Daily Intention
Last night I stared out the window at the newly planted bushes in our yard for an entire minute before I realized I was looking at dis-guarded Christmas trees. Somehow the holidays are behind us and we're more than one week into the New Year (enter reader's choice shocked-emoji-face here). Initially this reality made me panic but then a sense of relief washed over me -- I've made it into the safe zone. Time flew by so quickly that I didn't even have to make the hard, somewhat guilt-ridden decision to create a resolution or not! Don't get me wrong I love the transition of one year to the next -- few things excite me more than a fresh agenda, full of empty pages and endless possibilities. But sometimes the push for new goals and life-changing resolves seem like a daunting way to enter the next chapter.
Instead of fighting your former self or going full throttle against old bad habits, instead of setting unrealistic goals or perhaps more commonly, very vague ones, let's encourage one another to live with daily intention this year.
Be truthful with yourself about the motivation behind your actions; ask yourself the ultimate purpose of a decision, big or small. This awareness can often lead to better decisions and makes the present something of which you're more aware. And when done on a daily basis, can ultimately lead to big goals being accomplished.
Whether you decide to articulate specific resolutions or simply possess a few personal goals for the next few moths, don't forget to share them with a buddy -- difficult things are rarely achieved alone. And be gracious with yourself as you strive toward them. Baby steps are still steps.
Here's a killer 2015.
